Spark and Co., an OMAX distributor, will highlight the ProtoMAXÒ abrasive waterjet system at the Montreal Manufacturing Technology Show (MMTS) in booth #1805.

The event takes place at the Palais de congrès de Montréal on May 11-12, 2026.

The ProtoMAX abrasive waterjet is a compact, all-in-one cutting system designed to bring professional-grade waterjet capability to smaller shops, classrooms, and makerspaces. Engineered for prototyping and low-volume production, it delivers the versatility to cut virtually any material under one inch thick, including metal, composites, glass, stone, plastics, and more without generating heat-affected zones or altering material properties. Its self-contained design plugs into a standard 230V outlet and requires no special installation, making it an ideal fit for facilities where floor space is limited.

Despite its small footprint, the ProtoMAX integrates the same core technology found in larger industrial waterjet systems, including a 30,000psi pump, precision cutting head, and OMAX’s Intelli-MAX®software. The system is designed for ease of operation, with intuitive programming that simplifies complex cuts while still leveraging advanced cutting models for accuracy and consistency. With a mobile design on casters, the ProtoMAX is well-suited for shared workspaces, offering a clean, flexible way to expand cutting capabilities.

“The ProtoMAX is designed to make advanced waterjet cutting accessible to a wide range of users, from engineers and educators to artists and makers, without sacrificing capability,” said Stephen Bruner, director of Marketing and Revenue for the Americas, Hypertherm Associates. “At the same time, it’s a valuable addition for larger shops and fabricators, giving them a flexible way to handle prototyping, light production, or specialty jobs alongside their primary cutting systems.”

MMTS attendees who visit booth #1805 can speak directly with applications experts who will be on hand to demonstrate how easy the ProtoMAX is to operate and discuss waterjet solutions for businesses of all sizes. Booth visitors can also explore the products and services offered by Spark & Co., the company’s Canadian distributor. Spark & Co. distributes the complete OMAX portfolio of waterjet cutting technologies, a wide variety of waterjet accessories and consumables, and complementary machining solutions.
