Tormach recently introduced the 15LX CNC Lathe. What makes this machine tool unique among its competition?

The 15LX is a very capable, compact lathe that runs on standard 220V power that comes in every home. It’s powerful but still quite easy to use.

What are some of the key features of the 15LX?

The 15LX comes in two options: a gang-tool focused model and a turret-based model. They are faster, more powerful, and more full-featured than ever before. Both 15LX models come direct from our factory pre-assembled for fast setup. Every 15LX comes with our PathPilot controls, which includes rigid tapping and an easy-to-use conversational programming function. We now include accessories like an air gun and washdown hose, too.

Can the machine tool be upgraded?

We tried to include the most common accessories in both models; however, there are plenty of ways to upgrade. We have automation add-ons like a pneumatic collet closer, bar puller, gang tool accessories, and a variety of tooling to help you get started if you need it.

What features improve the 15LX as compared to its predecessor, the 15L?

We looked at every aspect of the 15L and tried to make improvements. Let’s start with the electronics: It’s all new and uses the same technologies we applied to the 1500MX. That means we also get servos, 6x faster rapids, and more than twice the spindle HP. The enclosure received quite a bit of attention to make it easier to use and keep clean. An all-new stand feeding into a redesigned chip tray and flood coolant system makes the machine more rigid and easier to maintain.

Lastly, we added the same 21-inch operator console we use on the 1500MX to the 15LX, making it much easier to operate the lathe.

In what ways are you showing the 15LX to potential customers?

If you are interested in the 15LX, you have some options for seeing one. We have a great pre-sales team who can help you remotely. If you happen to be in the Madison, Wisconsin, area or are willing to come up here, we have a great showroom that’s typically open from Monday to Friday. We will also have the lathe at select trade shows in the near future.

What kind of reactions did you get when the 15LX was demonstrated at the Manufacturing Technology Series Southwest Show in Dallas, Nov. 4-6?

I wasn’t at the show myself, but I heard that people were very impressed by the improvements we have made in this latest evolution of the lathe.

What do you expect the market response to be for the 15LX?

The 15L was already a very popular product for us and demand has only increased since the release of the 15LX.
