In the metal processing industry, clean cooling lubricants (e.g. corresponding to NAS 7/8 or particles < 3-5 µm) are an important part for overall productivity and profitability. Only with well-maintained fluids can a tool maker deliver drills and end mills in a quality his customers are expecting. That is where Vomat comes into the equation.

Vomat is a young German enterprise offering technically advanced filtration systems as a more economical and efficient alternative to traditional systems on the market. With its new exclusive distribution partner, oelheld, in Elgin, Illinois, Vomat now has complete sales and service coverage for the entire United States.

Matthias Leipoldt established Vomat in 2006. Shortly after the system’s introduction at Grind-Tec 2006, orders came pouring in. At the end of 2012, and after having increased its production space several times, the milestone of the 700th Vomat machine delivery was celebrated. This positive trend continues to this day with Vomat machines, made in Germany, operating on four continents.

Vomat systems are perfect for the filtration of micro particles in lubricants used in processes such as grinding, honing, lapping and eroding. The secret of Vomat’s instant success is the multitude of technical inventions packed under the “hood.”

There are plenty of capable systems on the market providing satisfactory filtration results. However, a lot of shop owners have to compromise on pricey throw-away filter mediums or on costly sludge disposal. There are many filtration systems operating in by-pass mode, with no 100 percent separation of clean and dirty oils, compromising surface finish on manufactured parts. Also, many systems waste large quantities of cooling liquid through primitive sludge disposal systems. Moreover, they transfer too much heat to the cooling medium, which in turn has negative effects on parts quality and makes it hard to maintain tight tolerances.

Vomat systems have been perfected on nearly all technical aspects. Vomat employs long-lasting high-capacity settling filter cartridges in conjunction with full flow filtration and complete separation of dirty and clean oil. One of the technical highlights of the Vomat system is its PLC-controlled cartridge back-washing system. The system is only activated based on filter contamination and allows for having a full supply of lubricant at the tooling machine even while running the back-wash cycle. Vomat systems also feature tailor-made cooling and disposal systems. The optimized sludge disposal is a particular favorite with Vomat users.

Apart from conventional sludge disposal via a sludge bag, Vomat offers a fully automatic disposal system called the Sedimentator (patented). With this option the sludge is deposited in 55-gallon drums, with less than 5 percent remaining fluid content ready to be picked up by a recycler.

Units equipped with the Sedimentator require minimal maintenance, as well as very little room, due to a compact design. Another advantage Vomat systems offer is the flexibility to adjust its machinery to nearly any plant size and production requirements.

Apart from its standardized machine lineup Vomat, offers its ZFA 1200 modular line. The Vomat ZFA series can adapt to an operation’s filtration needs from 320 gal/min to more than 2000 gal/min in capacity. This is easily done by starting with a Vomat ZFA 1200 module and then adding more ZFA 1200 as the need arises.

Vomat ZFA systems require little floor space, and the tank systems display separate compartments for dirty and clean oil. The tanks can be installed below- or above-ground. Vomat‘s high-capacity filter cartridges are long-lasting, back washable, and can be used with materials such as carbide, PCD and CBN. These filters require less maintenance and no filtration agents as some settling filters do.

Vomat’s full stream filtration systems warrant a 100 percent separation between dirty and clean oil. The system filter supply pumps are frequency controlled, which allows for controlled and on-demand filtration. The filters are automatically cleaned when needed. This saves energy and keeps the fluid at peak performance.

Cooling is achieved by means of high accuracy water cooling. The system is completely PLC-controlled and can be monitored via LAN connection by Vomat factory technicians.

Vomat strives to provide the best possible service and to be geographically near its customer base. It also likes to gauge specific U.S. market requirements and implement its findings in new products or enhancements. With oelheld U.S. Inc. as its exclusive U.S. distributor, this goal has been realized.
