The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) is hosting its 77th Annual Meeting & Exhibition May 21-25, 2023, at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California.

STLE is the technical society for individuals in the field of tribology and lubrication engineering. The gathering is the lubricant industry’s most respected event for technical information, professional development and international networking opportunities.

The five-day event will include keynote and plenary talks, live Q&A opportunities with academic and industry leaders, 500 technical presentations, application-based case studies, 11 industry-specific education courses, best practice reports, discussion panels on technical and market trends, and in-person networking and social events.

“This year’s annual meeting brings environmental awareness to the forefront of the tribology and lubrication engineering fields,” said Edward P. Salek, CAE, STLE executive director. “Not only will attendees learn about emerging research from transformational leaders, but our technical sessions will empower them with the information they need to achieve sustainable change.”

STLE’s Commercial Marketing Forum — a series of 30-minute marketing sessions where companies can promote their products and services — and exhibition will be open to visitors from May 22-24. The trade show will feature more than 100 booths showcasing the latest products and services of interest to lubrication professionals worldwide, representing a full range of the industry’s most prestigious corporate, government, and academic institutions.

Additional program features will include cutting-edge technical tracks:
• AI and machine learning.

Angel Wileman, manager of Thermofluids for Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), will open the meeting with a keynote address on Monday, May 22, from 10:30 a.m.-noon that focuses on why hydrogen holds promise as a viable energy solution for global decarbonization. Her presentation — “Hydrogen is Here: Are You Ready?” — will discuss the challenges facing hydrogen technology developers and provide the latest studies to address these challenges. The talk will also cover the development of cost-effective and efficient hydrogen production technologies, the challenges associated with hydrogen storage, transportation and use, and current U.S. and worldwide regulations around hydrogen.

STLE will host its annual Tribology STEM Camp for area high school students on Monday, May 22. Students can see demonstrations and participate in hands-on experiments led by engineers and scientists to learn about tribology and lubrication engineering and potential career opportunities in these fields. The meeting will also showcase college students and early career posters from all areas of tribology research.

STLE members and non-members can purchase digital proceedings of the technical presentations at the meeting via STLE’s online learning platform. Content will be searchable and organized by technical track and session, and discounted pricing will apply for those who purchase the digital proceedings with event registration.
