Overton Gear Corporation is pleased to announce the purchase of Chicago Gear – D.O. James Corporation. The combination of these two companies will result in one of the largest full-service gear and gearbox suppliers in the world.

Chicago Gear – D.O. James is a combination of two gear companies that date back over 120 years. D.O. James is known around the world, in virtually every industry. The company has produced more than 350,000 large, specially designed gearboxes. They’re found on units that run the Panama Canal, the locks and dams on the Mississippi River, the Mission Space ride at Epcot Center and in thousands of other heavy-duty industrial applications. Chicago Gear is the open gearing branch of the company, with a product line that ranges from gears produced at its Small Products Division to large gearing that exceeds 100" in diameter. As with the gearbox division, its products can be found in virtually every type of industrial application, including energy, steel processing, mining, mixing, defense-related products, and automotive.

Overton Gear Corporation, an employee-owned company, has been supplying high-quality gearing for more than 50 years. The company specializes in custom gears for the marine, off-shore, locomotive, mining, wind energy, transportation and construction industries, as well as OEMs across various markets. Located in Addison, Illinois, Overton’s three plants comprise over 150,000 square feet of manufacturing operations including the previously acquired Illinois Gear Corporation. Through a strategic alliance with Klingelnberg GmbH, the company manufactures and supplies high-quality large spiral bevel gears for the worldwide market.

Customers will benefit from the synergies created by combining these two companies through far-reaching product lines and increased capacity and efficiencies. In addition to their Chicago area manufacturing facilities, the new company will have 22 years experience partnering with some of the largest, most capable offshore manufacturers.

During the process of joining the companies into one unified organization, customers can reach both companies through their existing sales and service contacts.
