A new sourcebook on gear finishing is now available. Precision Gear Shaving, by Drs. Gianfranco Bianco and Stephen P. Radzevich, is of particular interest to those involved in the production of precision gears for the needs of the automotive industry and other applications.

According to the authors, gear shaving technology is widely used in the high-volume production of precision gears. The performance of gear transmissions, noise excitation, etc., strongly depends on the accuracy and surface finish of the shaved gears. This book discusses the process in detail, and it is dedicated to the engineers who work in the field of gear design, production, and application. It is intended to acquaint the reader with the concept of gear shaving, and how the shaving tool is designed and used. Experienced engineers may discover important information that could be useful in their practical work. The authors hope that readers will be able to understand the technology necessary to be able to manufacture a good gear-shaving tool.

Radzevich is a professor of mechanical and manufacturing engineering with extensive experience in sculptured surface machining on multi-axis NC machines, in the machining of gears, and in gear cutting tool design. He has developed numerous software packages dealing with CAD and CAM of precision gear finishing for a variety of industrial sponsors, and his main research interest is surface generation, focusing on the kinematic geometry of surface machining. He has spent more than 35 years developing software, hardware, and other processes for part surface machining and optimization. He has authored and coauthored over 30 books, some 300 scientific papers, and holds over 150 patents in the field. Bianco is the former technical and sales manager for a multinational gear tool and machine tool manufacturer, now working as a consultant in gear technology. He has experience in machining gears and the analysis and design of gear cutting tools, primarily for the needs of the automotive industry. He taught mechanical engineering courses at Turin University and trains engineers in affiliation with the Italian Association of Gears and Transmission Elements Manufacturers. Bianco has authored two books and hundreds of technical papers on gearing and gear cutting tools. His areas of expertise include improving the life of gear cutting tools, reducing production costs, and obtaining the highest quality of machined gears. Published by Nova Science Publishers, New York,  Precision Gear Shaving is available at www.amazon.com and other trade press outlets.
