CRC Press has released a novel book on gearing, the second edition of the Theory of Gearing: Kinematics, Geometry, and Synthesis by Dr. Stephen P. Radzevich.

Theory of Gearing: Kinematics, Geometry, and Synthesis is written by a leading expert in the field and intended for engineers and researchers in the field of gear design, gear production, gear inspection, and application of gears. It focuses on the scientific theory of gearing in all its aspects, and its application to new gear types and designs.

The contents of the book strictly follow the fundamental scientific principle formulated by famous Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879): “There is nothing more practical than a good theory.” Therefore, practical gear engineers should benefit greatly from the book.

Briefly, the main features of the book are:

  • Develops a rigorous scientific theory for optimal gear design, manufacture, and performance.
  • Provides a configuration of rotation vectors of the gear and pinion, and input
    torque.
  • Expands upon the coverage of the 1st edition, with six new chapters and expanded appendices.
  • Presents a formalized set of algorithms for gear design and performance.
  • Modifies, enhances, and improves the coverage provided in the book’s first
    edition.
