The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) announced a new publication and panel dedicated to women in the tribology and lubrication engineering field.

STLE is the premier technical society serving the needs of the tribology and lubrication engineering business sector. Its new digital publication, “STLE Women in Tribology and Lubrication: Perspectives From Leaders in the Field,” is a free publication sharing the stories and insights of 10 senior-level women with more than 25 years of experience. Each woman answers personal questions about their experiences up to the stage where they are now, ups and downs in their career, work-life balance, and more.

“The authors of our first women-focused publication have made significant contributions to the field of tribology, advancing the understanding of friction, wear, and lubrication in various contexts,” said Rebecca Lintow, CAE, STLE executive director. “STLE is thrilled to capture their life’s work and experiences in a format that will benefit future generations of women interested in tribology and lubrication engineering.”

The Women in Tribology Panel will be presented at the 2024 STLE Annual Meeting & Exhibition, May 19-23, at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is free and open to all registrants. The panel will be on Tuesday, May 21, at 5 p.m. CT. Moderated by Elaine Hepley, Solana Consulting Services LLC, the content will focus on women in the industry with an emphasis on career paths and advice. Attendees can share their questions, thoughts and experiences on bringing more women into the tribology and lubrication engineering field and helping to advance their careers.

The panel presentation will feature opening speakers and interactive discussions on key topics affecting women in the workplace. Panelists include Jennifer Altstadt (Sea-Land Chemical Company), Dr. Qian (Beth) Zou (Oakland University), and Dr.-Ing. Mirjam Bäse (Magna Powertrain GmbH).
