An inspection stand to detect grinding burn, hard turning defects, and other stress and microstructure defects in gears has been upgraded to test OD surfaces, faces, and ID surfaces as well as gear teeth. The system consists of:

• Rollscan 300;
• Electric cabinet including the robot controller;
• Cabinet for the Rollscan, system computer and printer;
• Computer with monitor, keyboard and printer;
• RoboAdmin software;
• ViewScan software.

The system requires manual loading and unloading of the parts. The RoboScan 600 automatically scans the part surfaces for defects. The system is preprogrammed to test certain part types. Measuring different types of parts is made possible by different sensors, robot programs and ViewScan measurement templates. Testing new part types can easily be taught to the system. Programs to be used with ViewScan and for moving the robot are created and edited with the RoboAdmin software. The data is analyzed with the ViewScan software.

Three different types of gear sensors, one OD- and one ID-sensor, are integrated in the system. The sensor fixtures are connected to the robot arm with pneumatic coupling. The sensor fixture has a proximity switch for indexing (referencing) and another one for crash detection. The crash proximity switch is activated, if pressure is applied from the front of the sensor. RoboScan 600 can automatically choose and change the sensor needed for the part according to the robot program. The system can be programmed to measure all teeth, one tooth or multiple teeth e.g. in segments of a gear. The robot is located in the safety enclosure, in which the measurements are made. This enclosure also includes parking places for sensor fixtures including the sensors. The safety enclosure is equipped with a door lock, a safe position and emergency stop system.

RoboScan 600 system is provided with a brush for cleaning and oiling the sensor. Tasks to brush and oil the sensor can be included to the robot program so that they are performed automatically after the measurement.
