In a recent press release, Raycar Gear & Machine announced that it has purchased a Hofler Helix 400 gear grinder with an onboard gear analyzer. This modern, full-axis CNC gear grinder has increased the company’s capacity to grind practically any tooth profile, including crown, taper, tip relief, and just about any imaginable modification up to 16 inches in diameter. Raycar can now consistently achieve–and often exceed–AGMA class 12-quality gears.

Located in Rockford, Illinois, Raycar is a privately owned gear manufacturing facility with more than 10,000 square feet of manufacturing space. It specializes in processing most low volume gear requirements of 1 to 100 pieces and is a complete job shop with CNC lathes, a CNC machining center, I.D. grinders, and a CNC O.D. grinder. The company has gear grinding, shaping, shaving, hobbing, tooth rounding, and keyway capabilities. Raycar’s managers carry many years of experience and the technical knowledge required to process gears.

Quality is first and foremost at Raycar, and the purchase of this gear grinder–along with a Hofler ZP350 analytical gear analyzer–allows the company to grind any spur or helical gear and consistently chart AGMA class 12-quality gears. First piece inspections are required as part of the regular process for each and every job, and in-process inspections are conducted after each operation during manufacturing. A final inspection is conducted before shipping, and inspection reports and gear charts accompany all shipments.
