Penna Flame Industries, a commercial heat treating company specializing in surface hardening, increased its industry leading technological edge in 2011 by adding its third robotic cell. The company’s family of robots is responsible for the precision surface hardening of various steel products such as gears, bearing races, rings, and high volume orders. The use of robotics in the hardening process allows Penna Flame to offer unparalleled uniformity and repeatability.

Through a partnership with Robert Morris University’s Robotic Engineering Department, Penna Flame became the first commercial heat treating company to offer robotics as a heat treating solution in 2008. The company’s first robotic cell ushered in a new age of technological development. The benefits were immediately apparent.  Because of the dramatic increase in efficiency, uniformity, and repeatability, a second robotic cell was added in 2010. The department continued to improve upon its initial success and R2000i was added early in 2011.

Headquartered in Zelienople, Pennsylvania, Penna Flame has been offering the surface hardening of steel to manufacturers across the nation since 1968 (see profile in this issue). Call (724) 452-8750 or go to www.pennaflame.com.
