Philadelphia Gear Corporation has announced the completion of ISO-9001 (2000 Standard) recertification of its quality management systems standards. "Completing ISO recertification shows our commitment to the manufacturing, calibration, and design portions of our business," says Rod Francis, director of quality for Philadelphia Gear, "and considering the strong emphasis ISO now puts on customer satisfaction, it has a very strong service component as well.

"Having such a system in place is critical for gearing manufacture and repair," Francis adds, "where often one-hundredth of an inch can mean the difference between properly functioning gearing and gear failure."

ISO-9001 specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organization: needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements, and; aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable regulatory requirements. In addition to corporate-wide recertification, Philadelphia Gear is in the process of completing multi-site certification for its five regional service and manufacturing centers.

A founding member of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), Philadelphia Gear offers products and services found in use worldwide; from conveyor gear drives used in long wall coal mining operations, to emergency repair services critical to the power generation industries. The company serves thousands of customers across the globe from its regional service and manufacturing facilities in New Castle, Deleware; Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago; Houston; and Los Angeles. Philadelphia Gear is headquartered in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
