The Barnes HH line of horizontal spindle bore-honing machines is normally used to process the cavities of rod or barrel shaped components. Considering the rigid structural box beam base design, combined with the easy-access open-face configuration, the HH series equipment is well-suited to hone very long and/or very heavy components.

Contemporary applications include oil-patch and military equipment. To be effective for such applications, the equipment requires a robust design, combined with high horsepower drives. This combination yields very precise tolerances with unsurpassed productivity and extended service life. The spindle structure and power, clamping and tool design aspects of the system are all engineered to work well with both conventional and super-abrasive tooling.

Honing tool expansion can be activated with either hydraulic or servo-motor drives. All aspects of the tooling expansion are totally programmable. Updated features include an Allen Bradley PLC control interfaced with an operator-friendly color touch-screen panel. An integrated modem is also included to facilitate off-site analysis, service and support. The control logic is programmed by Lapmaster and is custom designed to optimize your process. Innovative ergonomic and safety features, such as available laser beam guarding are now offered with our systems. The HH equipment is designed to work with our exclusive hydraulically-actuated clamping/work-holder system. Unique to horizontal bore-honing systems, Barnes now utilizes two work-holding fixtures to better support the work, which translates into faster honing and improved straightness.

The Barnes HH technology is designed, built, programmed, and supported at the Lapmaster International/Barnes Honing facility located in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. In addition, Barnes offers a complete line of consumable and accessory product, such as conventional and superabrasive tooling, lubricants, filtration, and chilling systems.
