The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) — the premier technical society serving the needs of the tribology and lubrication engineering business sector — is announced the release of its new free digital special report, “The Evolution of Turbine Oils, Their Management and Future Predictions”.

STLE reports on turbine oils and the future.

This special report summarizes key advancements in turbine oil formulation, tests, and condition monitoring technology, primarily over the past decade. The areas covered include formulation of turbine oils, testing and standards for turbine oils, and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and sensors. These recent advancements in formulations, tests, and monitoring are powering the shift to synthetic oils, the integration of AI and sensors, and the adoption of a holistic hybrid approach for optimal performance and sustainability.

“As the power generation landscape evolves, so too must the technologies that support it,” said STLE president Kevin Delaney, Vanderbilt Chemicals, LLC. “This report offers valuable insight into how our industry is innovating to meet the demands of turbine oils—through smarter lubrication strategies and a forward-looking mindset that prioritizes both performance and sustainability.”
