Institution Solutions, Inc., has been chosen as the exclusive distributor of iCanÅ brand industrial fluid containers for North America. iCan is a family of fully sealing, heavy duty plastic containers that offer users a better way to store, identify, and dispense industrial fluids. World-class companies realize that how industrial fluids are handled has a very real impact on machine reliability and, as a result, plays a significant role in determining plant profitability. It is well documented that fluid contamination is one of the most common root causes of equipment failure, so it is vital to keep lubricants and other industrial fluids as clean as possible. As machine tolerances become tighter, preventing contamination will become even more critical.

According to Jim Fitch, founder of the Noria Corporation, a publishing and training organization that focuses on lubrication-related issues, "The cost of excluding a gram of dirt is only about 10 percent of what it will cost once you let it enter the oil."

This is an economically powerful statement that should motivate all equipment owners and caretakers to improve the way they handle their lubricants. Because iCan products seal completely, they offer users an excellent way to keep fluids free from dust, dirt, sand, water, and other machine-ravaging contaminants. iCan plays an important role in the chain of custody, especially between bulk containers and the top-off point, which experts point to as the most common source of contamination.

iCan products are available in three drum sizes: two, five, and 10 liters. Users can choose from a pour lid or a pump lid. If they choose a pour lid, they then have the option of three different nozzles, each with a different size pour hole (1/4", 1/2" or 1"). If they choose the pump lid, they can attach the iCan pump, which includes a four-foot hose for getting fluids into tight areas.

One of the smartest features of iCan is its ability to offer users an easy way to clearly identify fluids. Using innovative Tags and clear, adhesive-backed Pouches that stick directly onto the drums, users can quickly and professionally label and color code iCan products. This reduces the likelihood of cross contamination, which is a very real threat to anyone using unlabeled containers. iPouches even give users the ability to carry Material Safety Data Sheets or other important safety documents with iCan containers at all times. This is an ideal way to ensure compliance with OSHA’s hazardous material identification requirements.

iCan containers also prevent dangerous and costly spills, which is a major benefit to any organization that is serious about complying with ever-tightening federal, state and local hazardous material regulations. "We’re incredibly excited to be the exclusive North American distributor for iCan products, especially since manufacturing organizations are beginning to wake up and understand that significant savings can be realized from relatively modest improvements in the way industrial fluids are handled," says Mark Hill, president of Institution Solutions, Inc. "Cleanliness is critical to maintaining a fluid’s integrity, and therefore its ability to protect equipment and enhance its reliability. We’re confident that the time is right for iCan products, and that they will be well received in the industrial marketplace."
