Mazak Corporation, a longtime technical sponsor for Team Penske, extends its congratulations to the team and driver Will Power for their victory at the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500.
Power took the checkered flag May 27 in Indianapolis, further cementing Team Penske’s legacy as the most successful racing organization in the history of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) Champion, Power won the Indy 500 for the first time after starting in the third position in his No. 12 Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet. Despite difficulties with mid-race fuel strategy, Power took his first lead on lap 108 and remained dominant throughout the second half of the race. Power returned to the third position in the final 10 laps, a position that guaranteed his victory after the two leaders ran out of fuel before they could cross the finishing line. Team Penske drivers Josef Newgarden and Simon Pagenaud also finished in the top 10, while an accident in lap 145 ended Helio Castroneves’ quest for his fourth Indy 500 victory.
With his team’s 17th victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Roger Penske’s organization has secured its place as the winningest team in Indy 500 history, an achievement due in part to Mazak machine tool technology. With the equipment, the team is able to design and produce highly engineered components on a tight schedule, a competitive advantage Team Penske leverages toward winning races and championships.
“Team Penske demonstrates its dominance time after time at the Indianapolis 500, and this year was no exception,” said Dan Janka, president of Mazak Corporation. “All of us at Mazak are extremely proud to be a part of Team Penske’s success on the track and look forward to see what they accomplish next.”
Mazak has served as a technical sponsor for Team Penske since 1994.
