In conjunction with the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), the Gear Consulting Group is pleased to announce a three-day training course to be held June 23-25, 2003, at the Star-SU America facility in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The class will cost $750 per person, and AGMA certificates will be awarded to all attendees on completion of the course.

The Gear Consulting Group contracts with AGMA to administer courses across the country through the organization’s well-known Training School for Gear Manufacturing. Course topics include standards nomenclature, gear geometry inspection procedures, manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, and approaches to achieving improvements in productivity.

"Through our relationship with AGMA, we present educational programs for the gear manufacturing industry," says Geoffrey Ashcroft, a director at Overton Gear and Tool and a founding partner of the Gear Consulting Group. "Although we usually hold these courses on-site at our larger customer’s plants, we also identify regional locations that will allow employees from companies of all sizes to attend."

Future classes will be held in Detroit, Indianapolis, and on the West Coast, Ashcroft adds. Dates and locations will be announced as they are identified.

In addition, a "skill standards" program developed by the Gear Consulting Group and approved by AGMA’s Education Committee will soon be offered. "We believe that this course is unique in the gear industry, and we’re eager to get started," Ashcroft says.
The Gear Consulting Group was created in 1999 in response to an industry need for qualified gear engineering, manufacturing, and education consultants. Course faculty include Ashcroft, who has more than 40 years of experience in the gear industry as a design and applications engineer, working for companies including Pfauter, Reishauer, and Oerlikon, among others. With more than 47 years of experience in axle and transmission design for the truck and automotive industries, Ron Green is an active member of several AGMA standards committees as well as a U.S. representative to ISO.
