Two years ago, Frenco—the gear and spline specialist from Altdorf, Germany—successfully took on the double flank gear rolling inspection line from Hommel-Etamic. Frenco is therefore in a position to not only maintain and calibrate Hommel double flank gear rolling testers ZWG8305 and ZWG8315, but also to offer retrofits and upgrades to the measurement and evaluation software “Frenco Gear Inspector” (FGI pro). In addition, Frenco is managing Mahr’s former range of rolling inspection instruments.

Developed by Frenco, the FGI pro measurement and evaluations software is continuously improved and adjusted to new customer requirements by their in-house software engineers. The software offers many interesting features due to its extremely application-oriented development, and it can also be used for retrofitted Mahr and Hommel instruments. The software offers the discerning user a number of options to display the measurement evaluations; series of measurements can be displayed in comparison, for example. Freely selectable measurements within a sequence can be clearly juxtaposed and compared. Using this tool the user can quickly identify when and how deviations are repeated, and errors or similar patterns can therefore be detected.

Another very useful feature is the traceability of the measured values (virtual level) to the physical workpiece—the so-called “positioning.” With the click of a mouse on any point in the graph the workpiece can be rotated precisely to the indicated position. It is also possible to generate a rule from this setting and record it in the inspection plan.

A global feature for internationally active companies is the separation between program and output language. A measurement report generated in English in the United States can be displayed and evaluated in German in Europe. Other available language versions are French, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Polish, and Russian, which is a global communications advantage. Add-ons are available for a large number of special applications, such as measuring the coating thickness of partly coated gears.

Whichever solution the end user requires, Frenco believes in an interactive process with the customer. Suitable solutions are found quickly and reliably, even for complex customer-specific applications. Frenco’s clear advantage is being a single source supplier from instruments to design engineering, software, and master gears which are ground on an in-house KAPP machine.
