During this time, he has been actively involved in research and development of functionality for the analysis of tooth interior fatigue fracture and for gear macro-geometry optimization. Prior to employment at SMT, Patel worked for several years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Nottingham, specializing in structural dynamics and focusing on energy harvesting from natural sources of vibration. He was also employed overseas in Japan in relation to this work and has published numerous scientific papers over his career.
