Tenova, a leading developer and provider of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry, recently announced the continuation of its long-standing collaboration with Topy Industries Ltd. at their Toyohashi Plant Works, embarking on Phase II of its acoustic water detection system.

The Japanese steel company demonstrated its confidence in Tenova’s advanced steelmaking technologies, reinforcing a partnership that has delivered measurable results for two decades.

Since pioneering the adoption of Tenova’s off-gas system for process control in 2005 — the first of its kind in Japan — Toyohashi Plant Works has consistently leveraged Tenova’s innovations to enhance operational efficiency and environmental performance. The off-gas system is an optimization tool designed for electric arc furnaces (EAF), offering consistent real-time measurements for substantial real-time savings.

More recently, the success of Tenova’s acoustic water detection Phase I installation on the 200t AC EAF shell represents the first rollout of this technology in the Japanese market.

Now, the collaboration continues with Phase II integration of the Tenova detection system on the EAF shaft panels, which further strengthens Toyohashi Plant Works’ commitment to sustainability and technological excellence.

The patented acoustic system consists of software and models designed to process data that is used to detect and alarm for the presence of water. By harnessing sound and vibration data from the furnace, the acoustic water detection system provides real-time insights into critical operational conditions. What was once considered a nuisance/noise can now be used as a diagnostic asset for EAF steelmakers. “Topy’s business relationship with Tenova continues to underscore the shared values and trust between our two companies,” said Akihiro Noaki, general manager, steel division, Topy Industries.

“One that is built on a foundation of proven performance and forward-thinking innovation.”

“Our partnership with Toyohashi Plant Works is a testament to the power of long-term collaboration and shared vision,”said Marcello Pozzi, CEO, Tenova Goodfellow Inc.

“We are proud to support their journey toward more efficient and sustainable steelmaking, and we remain committed to delivering technologies that drive real-world results.”
