Fairfield Manufacturing Company, Inc., announces that it has been purchased by Saurer AG. Based in Switzerland, Saurer is a global leader in textile machinery and power transmission solutions with over $1.8 billion in annual revenues and 8,800 employees worldwide.

Fairfield will become part of Saurer’s Transmission Systems segment, which also includes Graziano Trasmissioni, a world leader in the manufacture of gears, axles, transmissions, and complete drive line solutions for the on/off highway markets.

According to Gary Lehman, president and CEO of Fairfield, "this opportunity brings an exciting new perspective to our company and will help expand our services and offerings to our customers and markets around the world. We look forward to becoming part of a world-class organization such as Saurer."

Fairfield Manufacturing Company, Inc., with over 1,600 employees worldwide, is a leading global provider of gear and drive solutions for mobile and industrial machinery, including the popular Torque-HubÆ brand of planetary final drives. The company’s facilities include a 600,000 square-foot facility in Lafayette, Indiana, as well as a subsidiary–Fairfield Atlas, Ltd.–in Belgaum, India, with an additional 200,000 square feet devoted to manufacturing gear and drive solution products.

Graziano, headquartered in Italy, has 11 manufacturing locations globally and employs over 3,000 people. A full range of OEM product solutions include gearboxes, transmissions, and transfer cases for on-highway vehicles, as well as drivelines, axles, and related gearing components for both on- and off-highway vehicle applications.

The combination of Fairfield and Graziano Trasmissioni creates a globally leading solution provider for speciality transmissions and gears. Fairfield adds attractive specialities to Saurer’s product portfolio, grants access to new applications, provides Graziano with a manufacturing footprint in the NAFTA region, and offers better access to U.S. customers. In return, Graziano provides a platform for Fairfield to further penetrate the European market. In addition to the synergies that are created in Europe and North America, the combined business will be in a stronger position to further exploit market opportunities and production bases in China and India.
