Dura-Bar, the company that pioneered continuous cast bar stock in North America, is now offering round bars in extra-large sizes up to 25” in diameter. The new larger product line, Dura-Bar XL, is available in 65-45-12 ductile and G2 gray iron. The new extra-large bars are expected to widen Dura-Bar’s appeal as an alternative to steel in the manufacture of large metal components.

Dura-Bar XL is especially useful to industrial equipment manufacturers as a replacement for carbon steel bar and traditional castings. Dura-Bar XL also is well suited for producing molds as well as pattern and mounting plates. Ingots are cast in permanent metal molds and are supplied rough-turned to dimension +.125”/-000”. The rough turning further enhances the machinability of the product. While differing somewhat from the company’s traditional continuous casting, the permanent mold process used to produce Dura-Bar XL uses the same quality melt stock and is subject to the same rigorous quality processes designed to virtually eliminate casting defects such as gas holes, inclusions, and hard spots. For metal component manufacturers needing large-sized rectangles, Dura-Bar offers continuous cast rectangles up to 18.5” x 22” and 14” x 25”. The company is expected to introduce in the near future even larger rectangles made by the permanent mold process.

In addition to its new XL sizes, Dura-Bar produces an extensive array of smaller rounds, trepanned tubes, squares, and rectangles in gray, ductile, and Ni-Resist irons. Special shapes also are available. All Dura-Bar products are available from the company’s widespread network of distributors throughout North America. Distributors also offer value-added services such as inventory stocking programs, saw cutting, and inside-diameter boring if needed.
