BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling, Inc., will showcase a number of new and exciting products at Westec 2009. Visit booth #2632 to see what’s new from BIG Daishowa, Kaiser, Sphinx, Speroni, Unilock, and more.
BIG Kaiser’s EWB-UP (Ultra Precision) finish boring head is a revolutionary new series of Kaiser boring tools with the distinction of the finest adjusting resolution, .001mm steps of diameter corrections (.00005" on dia. for inch graduated heads). This innovation will allow users to easily make fine incremental adjustments where critical diameter tolerances are required, all without the use of a Vernier scale.

The EWB UP series’ six boring heads allow users to bore a range of 20-100mm (.787"-3.94"). The flexibility of the Kaiser KA connection permits a wide range of spindle interface options. All bore ranges and tool lengths are identical to the existing Kaiser EWN program. The integrated counterweight can be adjusted to any bore diameter by a separate scale to permit high speed operation.
BIG Kaiser’s new ER collet chuck is the first common industry collet chuck available with the BIG-PLUS interface. Now a standard collet system to be used in conjunction with a BIG-PLUS tool holder to take advantage of its benefits without having to invest in an entirely new collet system. The ER16 and ER32 collet chucks are only available in BIG-PLUS CAT40 and 50 tapers and are capable of supplying coolant through the spindle or through the spindle flange.
Also on display will be Speroni’s newest benchtop tool presetter, the MAGIS. This is an ergonomically designed system that has the following standard features included: integrated calibration master, pneumatic axis locks, X and Z axis fine adjust, CCD camera, and integral ISO 50 taper spindle with pneumatic spindle brake. The single-screen control, available with optional touch screen, is user-friendly allowing accurate tool measuring in minutes.
The new Level Master is a high-precision digital device that uses optical level sensor technology to level machine tool tables. The puck-shaped unit uses simultaneous two-axis detection compared to the traditional method of using two levelers. The level condition is indicated with color-coded LED lights guaranteeing error free measurement. The Level Master has two modes for rough and finish adjustments. Low mode can be used when the required level condition is within .1mm/m, while high mode will meet level conditions within .01mm/m.
The new Compact Angle Head combines vertical, horizontal and angular operations on one machine, delivering superior accuracy and eliminating multiple setups. It is designed specifically for lighter duty work and is smaller and lower priced than original angle heads. The Compact Angle Head has a maximum ½-inch capacity and is available in BIG-PLUS CAT40 tapers. The company also offers a complete line of tool holder styles to fit every application and spindle type, including BIG-PLUS, HSK, and Capto. Tooling ranges from micro- to large and heavy-duty, covering all of your metal-cutting applications.
