PRODUCT SHOWCASE: Quantum leap in the measurement of hobs

Gear cutting is a challenging task. Only perfectly made and re-sharpened tools can guarantee correct workpieces, short setup times and thus low downtimes of the expensive gear cutting machines. Full documentation and logging are a fundamental requirement.

The measurement and inspection of hobs has remained the domain of highly complex and extremely expensive measuring systems in measuring rooms. Largely, measuring systems with tactile sensors are used which need to be operated by specially trained personnel and with considerable expenditure of time. High costs and supply bottlenecks are the result.

With the »hobCheck« ZOLLER now offers a quantum leap for the measurement of hobs: the first truly workshop-compatible and at the same time economical universal genius for the complete measurement of hobs.

ZOLLER combines image processing technology with a measuring sensor and six CNC-driven axes to provide distortion-free complete measurement of hobs. It’s a clear technological advantage with a definite commercial benefit for users.

By swiveling the optic carrier into the milling pitch, the »hobCheck« provides distortion-free contours. This gives the user an exact replica of the tooth profile on the cutting edge. It’s fast and easy to operate – on a completely workshop-compatible machine.

The user-friendly software »pilot 3.0« offers extremely simple operation by displaying the desired parameters according to DIN 3968. The calculation of the quality classes and graphic logging is fully automated.
The link to esco, the standard software for hobs, avoids duplicating data entry and saves the user time and guarantees an error-free measured result taking current parameters into account.

With the software »hobCheck«, hobs are measured in accordance with DIN 3968. Among other parameters this includes concentricity and run-out, deviations in shape and position of the cutting face, deviations in shape of the cutting edge, tooth thickness and flute direction. The quality class is assigned automatically and marked appropriately in the protocol.

With the option of also being able to clamp tools tail-centered in the tailstock the »hobCheck« simplifies operation of the hob for the user.

The »hobCheck« not only solves the challenge of measuring hobs economically with high precision, but also includes all the standard functions of a measuring machine. The complete measurement of standard and special tools (drills, step drills, form cutters and milling cutters) is possible without any difficulties. This is a distinct added value, especially for re-sharpening businesses.

This new development yet again demonstrates ZOLLER's innovative leadership and competence in solving complex challenges with µ-precision. For more information on Zoller visit them online at
