Sam Haines, president of Gear Motions, joins Mike Barron, vice president/GM, and some Oliver Gear employee/owners upon their recent, successful ISO 9001-2008 Registration in the accompanying photo. Also shown in is Mark Bechteler, manager of corporate quality and continuous improvement, who led the yearlong effort to rewrite the company’s Quality Manual to sync up with the new ISO standard.

“The system was essentially in place at Oliver, it was simply a matter of getting what was already being done informally documented,” Bechteler says. “In fact Oliver’s quality metrics were very strong going into the program, and we simply needed to get people familiar with the ISO language, and procedures.”

Oliver Gear traces its roots back 1892 when A.F. Oliver started a general machine shop, and in 1907 incorporated as Oliver Gear and Machine.
