An expanded lineup of variable speed, constant torque AC gearmotors has been added to the Bison line, announced by Matt Hanson, Vice-President, Marketing at Bison Gear and Engineering, St. Charles, IL. The new configurations augment the extensive Bison line of fractional horsepower gearmotors, motors and reducers for the global market.

An expanded product offering, the three phase 230V 50/60 Hz AC gearmotors operate continuously from 6 Hz to 90 Hz when used with a variable frequency inverter drive. Less than 60 degree C temperature rise can be expected at the rated loads across the entire frequency range. A class F insulation system has been used incorporating materials specially suited for preventing corona type motor stator failures. Temperature sensing thermostats with signal wires have been added to incorporate into today’s common inverter controls. The motors are designed to accept an optional external brake.

Designed and built to AGMA Class 9 gearing standards, Bison’s new entries feature the high torque/size/cost ratios on which Bison has built its reputation, along with stronger gears and sturdier housings than are characteristic of the file. The geartrains will handle up to 200% shock loading. They may be mounted in any position. Design features include lifetime oil bath lubrication, needle/thrust bearing support, and precision ground shaft seal diameters.

Detailed specifications are available in the new specification guide, available free on request from Bison Gear and Engineering. CAD drawings of the new products can be downloaded from the web site.
