If you are interested in or work with grease on a regular basis, STLE’s 64th Annual Meeting & Exhibition—May 17-21, 2009, at Disney’s Colorado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida—has a great program for you. Six technical papers will focus on grease, with subjects including:
• Characterization of the performance of low-temperature greases
• Additive response in bearing greases
• High-temperature performance of greases
• Carbon nanotube greases
• Grease sampling techniques in motorized valves.
Further, grease-related topics are covered in a number of other technical sessions such as nanoparticles in grease and similar topics that overlap. The NLGI Grease Basics 101 course will also be held, which STLE is presenting in collaboration with NLGI for the first time. The course is a basic but comprehensive overview of all aspects of lubricating grease. The basics of grease formulation components are covered, including base oils, the many different thickener types and grease performance additives.
Manufacturing technologies are reviewed, as well as grease testing significance and methods. Included will be a discussion detailing how to select the proper grease for an application and a variety of examples of both industrial and automotive applications. The course ends with a problem-solving session with a panel of experts. Unlike the other nine one-day courses offered at STLE this year, the NLGI grease course has a flat registration fee of $500 that does not include registration for the rest of the annual meeting.
In addition, the Commercial Marketing Forum has presentations on multifunctional corrosion inhibitors and on improved antioxidants. STLE’s 2009 exhibition—May 18-20—will showcase more than 70 exhibitors’ products and services, including the latest in greases, grease additives, and grease testing procedures and equipment.
STLE’s meeting also provides an opportunity to save money. Register by the April 20 Early Bird deadline and save $75 on your meeting fee. You can find complete program information, register for the meeting, and make your hotel reservations at [www.stle.org].
