Robert Wooler, a commercial heat treating company located in Dresher, Pennsylvania, recently commissioned a new vacuum furnace from Solar Manufacturing. The custom-built vacuum furnace is a Model HFL-5748-2EQ featuring a SolarVac 3000 control system, a state of the art operator interface, and precise temperature programmer/control with multi zone auto tune PID.

The horizontal front-loading furnace has a 36” wide x 36” high x 48” deep work zone and a load capacity of 3,500 lbs. With a maximum operating temperature of 2,500°F, this Class 2 furnace has a temperature uniformity of +/- 10°F per AMS 2750-D standards. With this furnace addition, Robert Wooler can now offer its customers furnace availability, flexibility, and capacity especially for austenitic, martensitic, and precipitation hardening stainless steels.

“This new vacuum furnace is a terrific compliment to our wide range of furnace types including two bar, six bar, and integral oil quench vacuums,” according to Philip “Biff” Keidel, Jr., president of Robert Wooler (at left in photo). “Not only was it delivered by Solar Manufacturing on-time, it exceeded all of our specifications and requirements as well.”

The tight tolerance on temperature uniformity is especially important since the majority of Robert Wooler’s clients are in highly-regulated, quality-critical industries such as aerospace, defense, and medical. This is the 10th vacuum furnace the company has purchased.  According to William R. Jones (at right in photo), CEO of Solar Manufacturing, Wooler’s most recent purchase is “a result of technical cooperation and field service support between the two companies.”

Founded in 1923, the Robert Wooler Company has earned an excellent reputation in tool and die heat treatment as well as performing metal heat treating processes for nuclear, military and major aircraft manufacturers. The 25,000 square foot facility is NADCAP accredited for virtually all heat treating and brazing procedures. Visit online at www.robertwooler.com.
