Preco Laser Systems, LLC, a leader in materials processing, has named D. Mark Douglass, Ph.D., as senior applications development engineer.
The expansion of Preco Laser Systems’ (PLS) Laser Application’s Lab further strengthens the company’s ability to meet the needs of its customers. Douglass’s comprehensive knowledge of laser material processing will greatly enhance this effort and allow PLS to be the market leader in developing and applying new and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Before joining Preco Laser Systems, Douglass oversaw laser and joining applications development at Visteon Corporation. Douglass has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He is currently the vice-chairman of the AWS D8E subcommittee on automotive laser welding and is an active member of LIA.
In addition, Preco has announced that effective immediately Robert (Bob) Zimmermann will head the Preco Laser Systems Dayton/Detroit Sales and Engineering Design Office in support of automotive and industrial laser systems, process development, and laser contract manufacturing services.
Zimmerman has over 38 years of experience in laser processing for automotive, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing. He is well known in the industrial laser market, and specifically in the automotive market, where he was the recipient of the distinguished 2003 Ford Motor Company Excellence Award for Powertrain Operations Manufacturing.
Zimmerman has served as the chairman of AMT Laser Systems Product Group. He is a member of Edison Welding Institute, the American Manufacturing Technology Association, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the Laser Institute of America.
