The dynamic 1-Series horizontal machining centers (HMCs) from Makino are now available with a five-axis rotary table (5XR) designated option. This 5XR option is ideal for manufacturing applications that require maximum throughput and reliability. The versatile 5XR control specification is currently available on the Makino a51, a61, and a71 machines. It can help any size operation concentrate machining processes for multi-face jobs, intricately shaped parts, and for machining the cutter body.

This 5XR option enhances the compact 1-Series workhorse line, as well as Makino’s superior out-of-cut technology. This will help further reduce part cycle times and built-in reliability that minimizes or even eliminates traditional maintenance costs. Low- to high-medium production shops, medical and aerospace parts suppliers, and general contract machining operations are perfect markets for this five-axis table.

The maximum pallet load for the 5XR table is 330 pounds (150 kg) with a disk plate diameter of 12.80 inches (325 mm). The diameter and height of the work zone is 27.60 x 15.75 inches (700 mm x 400 mm). The B-axis travel is 210 degrees (60 degrees to +150 degrees), with the C-axis travel a full 360 degrees. Like all 1-Series HMCs, the 5XR units come with Makino’s Pro 5 controller and proprietary, next generation Geometric Intelligence (SGI.4) servo control software. This helps provide the lowest cycle times achievable while maintaining superior accuracy and meeting the customer’s quality requirements.

The standard 5XR system also comes with tool center point control for five-axis machining, cutter radius compensation for five-axis machining, tilted working plane command, manual feed for five-axis machining, three-dimensional coordinate conversion and rotary table dynamic fixture offset, thus allowing for advanced application for multi-axis machining performance.
