New Employees at Schafer Gear Works

Jeffery Basham (right) and Rodney Miller (left) have joined Schafer Gear Works, Inc. As an advanced manufacturing engineer Basham will be responsible for all advanced planning of new parts including CNC programming, tooling design, and application of the latest technologies in cutting tools and machine tools. He has over 18 years of experience in manufacturing. Prior to joining Schafer Gear he worked as a machining manager and programming engineer.

“We are excited to have Jeff join our team,” according to Paresh Shah, vice president of engineering and business development. “With his expertise, he will be able to oversee all new parts throughout Schafer’s production process and smoothly implement cutting-edge technology.”

Miller has joined the company as a manufacturing engineer, and he will be responsible for engineering support for all gear manufacturing processes. Prior to joining Schafer Gear he worked as a manufacturing engineer at B&J Medical. He also has extensive experience in manufacturing/design and CNC programming in automotive devices as well as in the recreational vehicle industry. He has an associates degree in industrial manufacturing from Indiana Tech.

“Rodney brings a strong manufacturing background to Schafer Gear,” says Dennis Sharp, production manager, “and will be a valuable asset in providing engineering support and process improvement for our shop floor.”

Established in 1934, Schafer Gear Works has been under its present ownership since 1988. The gear manufacturer is a diversified supplier to a variety of markets in North America including leisure vehicles, material handling, mining, power transmission, construction, locomotive, aircraft, and medical, as well as automotive and heavy-duty truck markets.

Schafer Gear Works operates three production facilities. The company’s Rockford, Ill. plant produces larger gears for heavy applications, the South Bend location produces higher volume gears for a variety of industrial applications, and the Fort Wayne, Ind. facility concentrates on high-precision fine-pitch gears for aircraft and medical applications.
