The Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) today announced that Mitutoyo America Corporation has joined the organization as its ninth industry member.
Headquartered in Aurora, Ill., Mitutoyo America Corporation offers a full line of precision measuring tools, instruments and related software backed by extensive training and support services. Mitutoyo America Corporation is part of Mitutoyo Group, a global manufacturing technology leader with operations and expertise in 28 countries around the world.

CCAM combines best-in-class manufacturers, Virginia’s top research universities and CCAM’s experienced scientists and engineers in an exclusive R&D collaboration designed to help industry accelerate the transfer of laboratory innovations to production-line solutions. Industry sets the research agenda and joins dedicated university and CCAM researchers in pursuit of new discoveries that improve products, processes and profits.
Research is underway at member-university labs as CCAM completes construction of a new, state-of-the-art, 60,000 square-foot facility in Prince George County, Virginia, just south of Richmond. The building, scheduled to open in September, features computational and large-scale production labs and high bay and open production space for factory scale equipment. Some of the confirmed high bay equipment includes a Sulzer Metco plasma spray unit, assorted surface preparation equipment, an advanced machining cell and a metrology laboratory being equipped by Mitutoyo.
