The U.S. EPA’s TSCA rules are complex and enforcement is stringent, making a comprehensive understanding of the regulations critical for compliance. The law has broad applicability, subjecting all companies that “manufacture, use, process, distribute, import, or export chemical products” to complex reporting and management requirements.

In 2012, more companies became subject to TSCA with a recent change to the Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) rules: many companies who have never before submitted CDR reports or followed specific management standards for their chemicals are required to do so this year.

To help chemical professionals understand and meet their responsibilities under TSCA, Lion Technology launched the TSCA Regulations Online Course this week. The new online course covers the core requirements for each provision of TSCA, including recordkeeping, reporting, management standards for specific chemicals like PCBs, and the new CDR regulations. In just 3½ hours, you’ll learn which TSCA rules apply to your operations and what you must do to comply.

Other critical topics covered include:
• Managing your chemical inventory.
• When and how to submit reports to the EPA.
• What must be reported? (new chemicals and “Significant New Uses”).
• Preliminary Assessment Information Reporting (PAIR) reporting
EPA and U.S Customs (import and export notifications).

CDR reports are now required every 4 years, instead of every 5 years. Accurate reporting is critical, as companies who made mistakes on their 2007 reports continue to be fined. Since June, the EPA has fined three companies over $362,113 for inaccurate reporting during the last cycle. In total, the EPA has levied $2.3 million in fines for TSCA reporting errors since 2007.

The new online course is available 24/7, and enrollment includes a comprehensive TSCA how-to reference, a compliance notebook, and a Certificate of Achievement.
