In a recent press release, FARO Technologies, Inc.–the global market-share leader in the portable coordinate measurement machine (CMM) field–announced that it has earned a prestigious European engineering honor: The Euromold Gold Award. The accolade is presented to the most innovative new-product launch during the year, and comes in recognition of the FARO Gage: a portable CMM with .0002" accuracy and a touch-screen computer that machinists can use without training. A neutral panel of trade representatives from well-known industrial firms, medium-sized companies, universities, research organizations, and members of the press made the decision.

"What the Oscar is to film, the Euromold Gold is to product development," says FARO President and CEO Simon Raab. "We recognized the need for shops of all sizes to become more competitive in the marketplace, so the FARO Gage and this award are testaments to how hard our R&D teams worked to fulfill that need."

Markus Eickhoff, business development manager for the FARO Gage, adds that "The Euromold Award confirms that FARO is on the right track, and we will capitalize on this with more 3-D measurement solutions. To that end, we’ve also unveiled the new FARO Laser ScanArm: the first portable CMM with a hard probe and fully integrated laser scanner."

The Gage and Laser ScanArm were on display at the Euromold Show in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, where the award was presented. Euromold is the primary European exhibition for tool and form producers, as well as automotive subcontractors.

The FARO Gage, with its .0002" accuracy and 24" reach, was designed to replace all traditional hand-held inspection equipment. It is a "mount it to where you make it," truly portable, cost-effective, 3-D gage for machinists. Training is not necessary, because the user has only to select the desired measurement task on the screen and is then guided through the measurement by easy-to-understand graphic displays. The FARO Gage records all the user’s measurements automatically and creates comprehensive reports, including statistical analysis such as GD&T and SPC, and has an expandable library of gaging and SoftCheck tools.
