Drake Manufacturing announces that it is ready to ship serial number one of a newly designed range of four-axis linear motor profile gear Grinders. The GS:G2-LM 200 was tooled to produce master gears. The GS:G2-LM gear grinders are currently available in two sizes: a smaller model handles workpiece diameters up to 200mm, and a larger machine up to 350mm. Minimum workpiece diameter on both models is 25mm. Both models are equipped with a +/-45° wheel helix. The optional worm grind package increases the machine’s capability to enable it to produce worms and other threads as well.

The GS:G2 lets manufacturers source near net shaped or hobbed gears from low cost suppliers and still gives them control over the final product quality. During the grinding cycle, Drake’s SmartSpindle acoustic emissions monitor allows fully automated gear tooth location and stock division to equalize grind stock. Fully automated machines with robot load are available. C-axis positioning is controlled by a direct drive synchronous torque motor with encoder feedback resolution of 0.2 arc seconds. Linear axis positioning resolution is 0.05µm. Drake’s GearSmart programming allows 15-minute changeovers. The operator only needs to enter specific part and process information into the menu-driven screens.

Drake Manufacturing designs, builds, and services state-of-the-art precision CNC grinding, rack milling, and gear hobbing machines that help maximize productivity, improve quality, and reduce production costs for a wide variety of demanding applications.
