Since its introduction at IMTS 2004, Drake’s GS:T-LM Linear Motor thread grinders have been configured to grind external threads up to 150mm diameter. Now a larger universal version, the GS:T-LM2, is available with a work envelope of 350mm diameter with lengths up to 2 meters. It can be equipped with a power wheel helix (A-axis) and for grinding external (±35° lead angle) and internal threads (±10° lead angle), right or left hand.

"This new grinder will enable us to serve a wider range of customers, especially those producing larger gears and worms and longer lead feed and ball screws," says Jim Vosmik, the company’s president.

The GS:T-LM2 is available with a host of advanced machine design and grinding technologies including power wheel helix, linear motors and ways, acoustic touch dressing, automatically generated wheel forms, crash protection, automatic part location, and a mineral filled cast polymer base. They have been designed from the ground up to take advantage of the latest superabrasives and, like all Drake grinders, they are delivered pre-programmed for the customers’ parts. Drake guarantees good parts out the door from day one.

"Our LM internal and external thread grinders are well suited for grinding taps, thread gages, multi-start worms, electronic steering components, fast lead ball screws and nuts, feed and bone screws, as well as gear box worms, transmission parts, and other high precision components," Vosmik says. "These machines were designed with a compact footprint to easily fit into manufacturing cells."

With the LM series of machines, Drake is enjoying further success in following its customers around the globe. Drake has recently sold machines to both U.S. and foreign based customers in China, Korea, Japan, Australia, Egypt, Poland, Mexico, and Canada. Drake Manufacturing designs, builds, and services state of the art precision CNC grinding, rack milling, and gear hobbing machines that help maximize productivity, improve quality, and reduce production costs for a wide variety of demanding applications.
