Schafer Industries Announces Appointment of Gear Unit Manager

Bipin Doshi, president of Schafer Industries has announced the appointment of Thomas L. Troyan as manager of the company’s Gear Unit where he is responsible for three plant locations including managing customer and supplier relations. Troyan joined Schafer Industries when the company acquired two axle manufacturing plants in Ohio where he served as general manager.

Schafer Industries’ Gear Division has plants in South Bend and Fort Wayne, Ind., as well as in Rockford, Ill. The company’s 108,000-square-foot South Bend location produces high-volume gears for a variety of industrial applications; the 45,000-square-foot Rockford, Ill. plant produces larger gears for heavy applications; and the 12,000-square-foot facility in Fort Wayne, Ind., concentrates on high-precision, fine-pitch gears for aircraft and medical applications.

Troyan has over 29 years of operations experience in manufacturing. Prior to joining Schafer Industries, Troyan was senior operations manager for Dana Holding Corporation where he was responsible for five North American facilities. Troyan has also served as general manager of F&P Georgia Inc. where he was instrumental in the program launch of several North American Honda vehicle platforms. He also served as plant manager for Metaldyne, a manufacturer of precision machined components for the automotive compressor market and spent 13 years with Allison Transmission serving in various roles in engineering and operations.

Troyan has a B.S. in industrial management and engineering from Purdue University and an M.B.A in operations from Butler University. He is a previous member of the Society of Automotive Engineers as well as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Schafer Industries also includes a Driveline Division that operates two production facilities in Ohio. The 120,000-square-foot assembly plant in Fredericktown produces axles for leisure, all-terrain and utility vehicles; transmissions and transaxles for ATVs; and related off-highway brake components and assemblies. The 30,000 square-foot facility in Blacklick produces aluminum gear housings, ductile iron differential cases, and ductile iron brake components.
