QC American, LLC of Ypsilanti, Michigan, announces an exclusive agreement with MDM Mecatronics of Bologna, Italy, for CNC gear measuring machines (GMM), software, and services for North and South America. MDM’s range of GMMs are class I capable to VDI/VDE 2612 & 2613. Current GMM models are 400, 700, 1100, 1600, and 2500mm tip diameter capable.

Founded in 2008, QC American will serve as the final assembly point with customization of MDM machines, PC installation, and customer-driven software and chart changes. Retrofits and upgrades of existing GMMs are possible in our 19,000 square-foot facility. QC American’s showroom has an MDM 400mm GMM under power and measuring a variety of gears, hobs and worm gears for our existing gear grinding machine operation.

Founded in 1979, MDM had early breakthroughs in CMM design and construction along with several patents for high precision LVDT probing systems. GMM designs utilize lapped granite bases, columns and guideways with frictionless air bearings throughout. An early adopter of linear and torque motor technology, MDM has a unique neutral axial thrust design philosophy for lightweight, accurate, and inert measurement installations. With a large range of control speed, linearity of movements is perfect. There is no loss of accuracy with a much larger machine measuring a small part.

The all-important fourth axis consists of a composite rotary table with a high quality frictionless torque motor capable of high weight capacity and flexible workpiece loading configurations. The MDM proprietary probing design is based on a special high linearity LVDT capable of 50nm resolution. Heidenhain glass scales and encoders are used throughout the machine.

Windows-based software includes lifetime upgrades from MDM. The GMM is universal and capable of internal and external measurements, worm gears, rotors, cam shafts, unknown gears, roundness, bevel gears, spline forms, shaper cutters, hobs, and many other possibilities. MDM has custom designed a large variety of software for their customers. With norms to DIN/ISO/AGMA standards, measurements are easily convertible from inch to metric and printouts are easily converted between the different standards. K-charts are also supported, along with a number of different methods of reporting SPC data. Learn more at www.qcamerican.com.
