At the 2009 GEAR EXPO the Kapp Group will focus on education by providing a direct video/audio link to its facility in Boulder, Colorado, to demonstrate wet grinding of various workpiece types. Hourly learning sessions will be presented by its technicians in Boulder and will include the following topics:

Profile grinding
• measurement for setup and precision alignment of teeth
• high feed-rate grinding with dressable wheels
• modern application of CBN mono-block tools
Generating grinding
• large lot size repetitive jobs with combined dual flank and tip dresser
• small lot size with topological modifications
Workholding setup
• solutions for low lot size manufacturing
Kapp and Niles applications engineers will be present on-site to facilitate and augment the learning sessions and answer specific questions. Machine modules will aid in understanding the basic processes. Its chief tool engineer will also be available to consider special tool requirements for Kapp CBN and DIA tools.
In addition Kapp will demonstrate the latest addition to our product line, the Kapp KX 500 FLEX gear center, capable of grinding and measuring external spur and helical gears of modules up to 10 mm (0.4 in) with an outside diameter of maximum 500 mm (19.7 in) and a gear width of up to 520 mm (20.5 in). Onboard measurement and evaluation of lead involute and index provides immediate confirmation of setup quality.
The KX 500 FLEX features a multi-station indexing table and an optional twin-spindle dresser for maximum flexibility and dressing speed. Several automation options are available to suit customer-specific requirements. This machine offers optimum application-specific solutions all in one machine: continuous generating grinding with dressable or CBN plated worms; discontinuous profile grinding with dressable or CBN wheels; or a combination of both methods.
The Kapp Group is an innovator of grinding and honing technology for hard-finishing gears and other precision toothed components. Our machines serve the diverse industrial markets of automotive, aerospace, wind energy, construction, and mining. It offers a complete machine life-cycle package: machines, tools, processes, and service. This long-term, close cooperation with our customers is our commitment to excellence. Please visit the Kapp Group at booth #923 at GEAR EXPO September 15-17 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, to participate in one of its learning sessions and meet with specialists in gear grinding solutions.
