The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF), trade association for the international metal powder producing and consuming industries, and its affiliate APMI International announce PIM2009, an international conference on powder injection molding (PIM), to be held March 3–4, 2009 at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, near Orlando. The conference will be immediately followed by a two-day workshop on medical applications of micro powder injection molding. In addition, a one-day PIM tutorial will be offered prior to these events on March 2.
The Metal Injection Molding Association, a trade association within MPIF, is organizing and sponsoring these events as part of its continuing efforts to promote the technology to the manufacturing community. The PIM industry, with recent sales estimated at over $1 billion and growing, has realized major technological advances and overcome numerous business challenges. The objective of the PIM2009 conference is to continue to explore these advances, assist in the transfer of technology, and investigate new developments in the field of powder injection molding of metals, ceramics, and carbides.
The objective of the workshop on medical applications of micro powder injection molding (micro-PIM) is to exchange information on state of the art bio-micro manufacturing, promote collaborations in research & development, and promote networking among industry and academia. The workshop will identify critical issues for research and the current status of fabrication science.
The technical program chairmen for the conference are Thomas W. Pelletiers, SCM Metal Products, Inc., and Fred Robinson, Kinetics. The micro-PIM workshop organizers are Randall M. German, FAPMI, San Diego State University, and Young-Sam Kwon, CetaTech, Inc., in Korea. Details are available online at [www.mpif.org].
