Today’s wind turbines have to withstand extreme mechanical stresses under very demanding conditions, especially with the latest trend of offshore locations, where wind speeds are much greater and maintenance work is even more challenging. At this year’s Husumwind trade show Cognis Functional Products featured solutions that help wind farm operators extend the service life and increase the efficiency of their equipment with environmentally sound products. On the display were Breox SL 320 gear oil and ProEco HE 801 series biohydraulic fluids.
Since gearboxes are both among the most-stressed and most-expe
nsive components, their durability and reliability are especially important. A key factor here is the quality of lubricants. Breox SL 320 is a polyalkylene glycol-based gear oil which offers the specific performance properties required for use in wind turbines, and is ecologically sound. Thanks to its outstanding micro-pitting resistance, bearing wear protection, shear stability, viscosity stability in the presence of water, persistent foam resistance, and clean operation, Breox SL 320 helps improve reliability and extend drain intervals, thereby significantly enhancing the overall profitability of the wind turbine.
The ProEco HE 801 series is a range of high-performance, anti-wear biohydraulic fluids. With excellent low temperature performance, good seal compatibility, and superior oxidative stability, ProEco HE 801 improves turbine efficiency, even in extreme climates. Based on patented renewable ester technology that is readily biodegradable, it exceeds most important global eco-standards, including the EU ecolabel.
According to Raj Patel, European marketing manager synthetic lubricants, “Breox SL and ProEco are commercially proven new technologies that address common lubricant performance problems in the wind energy market, saving our users money. Users demand improved component protection, improved filterability, and all-climate performance. Breox SL and ProEco deliver high performance under demanding conditions.”
