The DEA PRIMA direct computer control coordinate measuring machine, available from Brown & Sharpe, is designed to provide cost-effective flexible gaging for large workpieces. PRIMA is available in five models ranging in size from 2000 mm (78.7 in.) x 1200 mm (47.2 in.) x 1600 mm (63.0 in.) to 4000 mm (157.5 in.) x 1600 mm (63.0 in.) x 2100 mm (82.6 in.). PRIMA is designed with a three-point support that eliminates the need for a foundation. Its sturdy base and table resist vibrations to improve measuring accuracy. PRIMA’s open sided design and large work area facilitate automatic loading and the use of fixturing systems such as the DEA FIVE U-nique system. Easy access to all components, and minimum mechanical adjustments, simplify in-field system maintenance and calibration.
The PRIMA is built to operate on the shop floor. Thermally compatible structural materials and a built-in linear thermal compensation system reduce the effects of ambient temperature on measurement results. Machine tool rack and pinion drive mechanisms on all axes improve measuring accuracy. AURODURÆ optical scales, featuring a certified coefficient of thermal expansion, provide system resolution of 1 µm.
The PRIMA can be equipped with the DEA CW43L multi-axis continuous rotary wrist for complete workpiece accessibility. The CW43L servo wrist can accommodate probe extensions up to 570 mm. The PRIMA CMM can use touch trigger probes, analog scanning probes or non-contact laser sensors for full flexibility in meeting any data gathering and throughput requirement. PRIMA is supplied with PC-DMIS(tm) measurement and inspection software. PC-DMIS makes use of CAD-based interactive graphic interfaces and supports the creation of in-line and off-line measuring programs, complete with graphic part models, measurement path simulations, and graphic representation of results.
