Gleason Corporation is a world leader in the development, manufacture, and sale of gear production machinery, tooling, and related equipment and services. The company’s products are used by customers in automotive, truck, wind energy, aircraft, agriculture, construction, power tool, and marine industries, and by a diverse set of customers serving various industrial equipment markets.

Gleason has manufacturing operations in Rochester, New York; Rockford, Illinois; Dayton, Ohio; Plymouth, England; Munich and Ludwigsburg, Germany; Studen, Switzerland; Bangalore, India, and; Harbin and Suzhou, China. It has sales and service offices throughout North and South America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.

At EMO Hanover, September 17-22, Gleason leads the way in significant innovations in gear manufacturing. In a 660 sqm booth Gleason will present the most comprehensive gear manufacturing line in the world. Beside four world novelties, additional new product technologies and latest developments will be exhibited, representing the know-how and experience in gear production technology that customers have come to expect from Gleason. This experience is reflected in a variety of soft and hard manufacturing processes in the production of both bevel and cylindrical gears as well as inspection equipment. Take the opportunity to see today the gear-cutting machine tool trends of tomorrow and visit the Gleason booth in Hall 2, Booth A56.

World Premiere of the Hobbing Machine Genesis® 210H

Gleason Corporation introduces the Genesis® 210H Hobbing Machine. The 210H Hobber is designed for and is particularly well-suited for dry hobbing. The work area is completely isolated from the machine bed to minimize thermal expansion caused by contact with hot chips; it incorporates a stainless steel cutting chamber with steep inclination to ensure that chips fall completely clear of the work area.

The 210H Hobber is equipped with an innovative new mechanical cam-driven double gripper loader fully integrated into the machine. As a result, costly non-productive time can be cut to a minimum, with part load/unload times as short as three seconds. Unlike conventional hobbing machines, the Genesis 210H utilizes a new, patent-pending hob drive system to eliminate complicated mechanical and hydraulic clamping systems. Instead a simple “D-Drive” type enables the spindle to transmit more torque, with less runout, and at the same time accommodate the use of larger diameter hobs for greater performance and longer tool life.

All of the Genesis machines share a common platform and have a small, compact machine footprint. The platform is designed to enable the user to install and relocate the machine with no special lifting equipment or special foundations, and consolidates hydraulics, lubrication, and pneumatics into one easy-access location. The 210H also features direct-drive spindle motors. Other significant features include:

• An Easy Access Service Module that consolidates hydraulics, lubrication, and pneumatics into one location.
• Optional on-board chamfering and deburring capability.
• Availability of the latest Siemens or Fanuc controls and the latest Gleason software running in a true Windows® environment.
• Alternate chip conveyor arrangements from either the side or rear of the machine to meet any cell/system arrangement.
• Capacities are: nominal workpiece diameter, 210 mm; nominal module, 4 mm; maximum axial travel, 350 mm.

World Premiere of the Spheric® Power Honing Machine 150SPH

At this year’s EMO, Gleason is presenting another world first: the revolutionary new 150SPH Power Honing Machine (patents pending) with leading-edge Spheric® Honing for finishing hardened spur and helical gears. Given its directly-driven honing head with speeds of up to 3,000 rpm, this machine can be used to scale new heights of economy and quality. A wide variety of tool systems can be used on this machine to satisfy the various requirements of different component geometries. As particular use is made of gear honing to achieve low-noise surfaces or for machining involving interfering contours, these require¬ments were taken into account at an early stage in development.

The latest version of the Spheric® Honing software runs on the Siemens 840D control. In addition to simple, graphically-aided data input, the software also provides process data calculation. In combination with simple-to-change fixtures and tools, the system could not be any more user-friendly. The integrated loading system facilitates short loading and non-productive times, as well as a link to the customer’s own automation concepts. This machine is based on the experience of over 150 Gleason-Hurth honing machines sold, and its technology shows the way forward for maximum productivity and quality.
Capacities are: nominal workpiece diameter, 150 mm; nominal module range, 0.5 – 4 mm; maximum face width, 50 mm.

World Premiere of the Universal Gear Tester 360T

The versatile and innovative 360T Universal Gear Tester is for 90 degree, angular bevel, and cylindrical gears. State of the art CNC-controlled roll testing of just about any gear set type is now possible with the new-generation Gleason 360T Universal Gear Tester (patents pending), available in either fixed 90 degree or full angular configurations. Its ability to quickly perform advanced quality measurements on bevel, angular bevel, and parallel-axis gears makes it ideal for everything from high-production automotive and jobbing to laboratory environments.

• Fully automatic SFT and SBN checking of all gear set types.
• Swinging gear head from 65 to 185 degrees.
• Compact and ergonomic machine design.
• Tool-less arbour installation and adjustment.

Also on display will be the new Genesis® 130TWG Threaded Wheel Grinder; the Genesis® 130SVC Shaving Machine; PHOENIX® II advanced Bevel Gear Grinding Machines; and the Gleason CNC Gear Testers SIGMA 175 and SIGMA 7 with Renishaw® 3D probe heads, as well as cutting tools and workholding solutions.
