Klingelnberg presents trend-setting Industry 4.0 solutions at BI-MU

The 31st edition of the BI-MU trade show, one of the most significant Italian trade shows for machine tools, robotics, automation technology and digital manufacturing, was held in Milan, Italy, in early October. Mechanical engineering company Klingelnberg was represented at the trade show with its subsidiary, Klingelnberg Italia S.R.L., to present innovative solutions for production systems in the age of Industry 4.0 with the Höfler cylindrical gear generating grinding machine Speed Viper 180 and the Klingelnberg Precision Measuring Center P 65.

According to the organizers, more than 70,000 trade visitors were expected to attend the fair. With leading themes such as digitization in the production and manufacturing sector in the age of Industry 4.0, the BI-MU trade show also offered an ideal platform for Klingelnberg to present its latest innovations to the Italian market as a solution provider.

Höfler Cylindrical Gear Technology stands for an economical and high-precision production of cylindrical gears. Klingelnberg’s Speed Viper platform complements the Höfler range of grinding machines and serves a new market segment, namely highly productive generating grinding with a clear focus on maximum productivity in mass production.

In doing so, the Speed Viper platform is optimally designed for the Industry 4.0 manufacturing environment. This most recent development makes it possible to connect cylindrical gear machines directly to the measuring devices. This technology is already being used successfully in bevel gear manufacturing. By transferring the closed loop concept established by Klingelnberg to the world of cylindrical gears, the mechanical engineering company has made another systematic step toward digitalization in gear manufacturing. Due to a wide variety of associated applications and software, Klingelnberg is implementing central production control using its cyber-physical production system, which will standardize rating results on different machines and even in different plants.

Klingelnberg has thoroughly overhauled and standardized the design and ergonomics of its product range of precision measuring centers. The tried and tested technology has also been further developed specifically to meet the strict requirements for measuring accuracy in complete measurement of axially symmetrical precision parts. The P 65 precision measuring center, which is designed as a compact unit for a workpiece diameter range of up to 650 mm, was to be presented by Klingelnberg as an example at the BI-MU trade show.

Fully automatic CNC-controlled precision measuring centers from Klingelnberg are ideally suited to handle most measurement tasks in a wide range of sectors. The machine and software concept is optimized for the measurement of complex drive components using a technology that replaces up to six conventional measuring methods — namely gear measurement, general coordinate measurement, form and position measurement, roughness measurement, contour measurement, and optical measuring technology. Maximum measuring and reproduction accuracies are guaranteed — the P series represents a widely used standard in the industry.
